Hair is a Fiber, Too

I had finally found a hairdresser I liked for both color and cuts, so I made an appointment for when I went back home last weekend. Since I'll only make it up there once every so often I thought it would be a good idea to get the same haircut, just shorter so it would last longer. Gulp.

You know it's bad when other girls flatly say, "you cut your hair". A statement of fact, not appreciation. S and boys in general seem to like it, but we all know looking good is about impressing other girls. :)

Woman vs. hair has always been an epic struggle throughout time.

In junior high the most popular girl in school had long, really shinny dark hair that looked good straight or curly. The boys adored her and the girls wanted to be her. We went on a science camping trip together the summer after 8th grade and my sole goal was to see what shampoo she used so I could get some in time for freshman year.

We ended up never being tent mates or having similar shower times so I'll never know. Last I heard, she ended up not going to college and was literally serving fries the last time I saw her, so her shampoo must have been discontinued.

I once complimented a woman in a yoga class on her haircut and mentioned that I used to think that the secret to popularity and all that was good in life was directly porportional to how cool your hair was. She looked at me and said "Well, it's great that yoga teaches us to see inner beauty" or something like that. I replied that it still didn't hurt to have good hair and even though I saw her a few times after that, she didn't talk to me again. It must have been because my hair was a long, unruly mess.

As one who went from blond to natural to greying to blond again (I'm calling it my midlife-crisis-hair to those who choose to comment), I laughed out loud about your yoga story....Do something with that hair, woman!
