Catching up

Hello all...it's been a while.

First, some sad news...my grandmother passed away last Wednesday at the age of 93. She was the mother of 13 children, grandmother of 43, great grandmother of 20, and great - great grandmother of 1. The whole family gathered in San Antonio to celebrate her life. Lots of stories were told about her cooking, which had been known to include deer brains, an occasional goat, and once, my mom's pet rabbits. She was also remembered for her fashion sense and amazing ability to multitask. Rest in peace, Mamere.

Ok, on to knitting things...
I finally got a copy of Knitting Without Tears. It is a wonderful book. I'm using her sock recipe to make S a pair of thick wooly house socks. There isn't much need for thick wooly socks in Texas (the leaves only turned last weekend, and it was like, 85 yesterday.) but we're hoping to find a cute house with wood floors in February, the nastiest month here. Hopefully they will come in handy then. Hopefully I will have finished them by then.

I am trying to circumvent the boyfriend curse by knitting them in private and posting incognito pictures. I'm almost to the first toe. I've never made a toe before, so it should be interesting.

This is a progress shot of a stash - busting green cardigan. You know, the one I bought another ball of yarn for? Well, I need more, just one more, I promise. I don't want it to be so cropped. It's going to hit at a weird spot on my waist. So if there's anyone out there in blog land who happens to have a lonely skein on Berroco Softwist in Fern (I think it's color number 9445) let me know...I'll trade you for something, make you something, I'll even pay you money if that's all you want. But I would really like to wear this to the future in-laws Thanksgiving shin-dig and I don't want them to see me and think, "Wow, what an awkward length hand knitted cardi! What does S see in her?" Haha, ok, I know I'm crazy.
