Swap Spoiler!

Well, it really shouldn't be, since FedEx says my partner's package was delivered. The swap was on craftster and the theme was Forest Friends. My partner is a fellow knitter, and wanted clothes or dangly jewlery and she liked turquoise, black, silver and gold. So here is what I sent:
Pretty Stitch Markers! I wanted to do owls, but the most forest-y thing I could find were some dragonflies.

Deer Shirt! This was my first time stenciling, and I'm very pleased with the results. I found a couple of deer pictures online and tweaked them around to my liking. The white flower tiles I used for the background were stenciled using a brass embossing plate I got off the clearance rack a long time ago. Hooray for impulse buys that actually get used! Here's a close up:

I also made her some dangly leaf earrings but I forgot to take a picture becaus I was in a hurry to get it in the mail. I'm leaving for the great country of Costa Rica tommorrow and I'll be gone a whole week! Please don't foget about me, I will return with pictures of monkeys and hopefully a sloth.

Fiber Fest!

What says Fiber Fest like an SUV that brings its own ball of yarn along? It was a really small event with only a handful of vendors. I didn't attend any of the classes due to my soon to be unemployed status. If I had, I might have a different perspective of it.

I did meet a very nice woman that invited me to a once a month knitting group in Plano. (Which is kinda a trek from where I live, but it's only once a month) It sounded like there was a lot of wine at this event, which is always good to hear.

I also bought a felted flower kit from the fine folks at Stitch elegance. Haven't got to try it out yet, but maybe while I'm on vacation.

Also, finished 1 of the gloves for my coworker, on my 3rd repeat of the increase section on the clap (boring), and mentally designing something that will maybe, one day, knock your socks off!

Reality Has a Liberal Bias

Check out Stephen Colbert's monologue at the White House Correspondent's Association dinner.

This is some hard hitting comedy. "It's funny 'cause it's true" has never been, well, truer. I'm literally jaw-dropped, bug-eyed over it. Colbert is my latest hero.
Colbert calls out the president on his handling of the war in Iraq, his "My beliefs are more important than the facts" attitude, and of course, his brush clearing in Crawford, Texas.
Colbert also rips the press corps, Fox news, and a handful of other politicians.

I regularly watch his show, The Colbert Report which is funny, but not nearly as gloves off as his address at the press corps dinner. This guy has a serious pair of cojones. And by that I mean balls. Big balls.

The only reason that I can think of that he wasn't shut down is that it was only broadcast on CSPAN, to a roomful of reporters with bruised egos. No one thought the general public would see it?

And how did he get asked to speak? I'm sure they are so fired.

There will be real knitting and non-political updates later this evening, after my computer is back up and running. This post was posted using magic!
